The Benefits of Experiential Learning: Make Lessons Memorable and Engaging

Do you find traditional methods of learning boring and uninspiring?

Lectures and textbooks can only do so much to keep learners engaged. That's why we need to embrace experiential learning! Experiential learning is a dynamic and immersive learning experience that actively involves learners in the process of learning. This method of learning takes many forms, including simulations, games, role-playing, field trips, and even virtual reality experiences. By creating an environment where learners can get hands-on and experience things for themselves, experiential learning makes lessons more interesting, which improves retention and understanding of the material.

Why care about experiential learning?

We believe that it will be integrated into traditional classroom settings more often, with technology playing a significant role. Virtual and augmented reality, as well as gamification, are all ways to enhance experiential learning and make it more accessible. Gamification is a powerful tool for experiential learning because it taps into learners' intrinsic motivation to succeed. When learners are engaged in a game, they are more likely to be invested in the learning process. Gamification also provides opportunities for learners to practice skills in a safe and non-threatening environment. Teachers could use games to teach children how to collaborate, solve problems, or develop critical thinking skills. Experiential learning is an effective and engaging way of teaching that caters to the needs of modern-day learners. By actively involving learners in the process of learning, we can create a more dynamic and immersive experience that makes lessons more interesting and improves retention of material. As we look to the future of education, we should be exploring new and innovative ways to integrate experiential learning into traditional classroom settings using technology such as gamification.

What’s an easy way to make learning experiential?

Games or simulations that allow learners to practice and apply their skills in a safe and engaging environment. This could be as simple as a role-playing activity where learners take on different characters to explore a historical event or a social issue. Board games, escape rooms or jeopardy-styled games are other great ways to include interactivity in lessons.
